什么是cystocele？

Cystocele is a medical condition that arises when the wall between the bladder and vagina weakens. Due to this, the bladder sags into the vagina. It is typically divided into three grades: grade I, grade II, grade III. Grade I is a mild case. In grade I, the bladder only droops a short way into the vagina. Grade II is a more severe case. In grade II, the bladder has sunk into the vagina far enough to reach the vaginal opening. In the most advanced grade III, the bladder bulges out through the vaginal opening.

Cystocele can occur due to different reasons such as advancing age, overweight, childbirth, heavy lifting, straining muscles during childbirth, constipation and previous pelvic surgery, etc. The common symptoms of cystocele are feeling pelvic heaviness, a bulge in the vagina that can be felt, lower back pain, aching in the lower belly, frequent urinary tract infections, need to urinate often, pain during sex, problems putting tampons, etc. The diagnosis of this medical condition can be made through reviewing medical history, pelvic exam, cystourethrogram, and MRI. Furthermore, the treatments of this condition depend on the grade of the cystocele; these include activity changes, kegel exercises, pessary, surgery, and hormone replacement therapy.
