What is Monodox?

Monodox is a tetracycline antibiotic substance that can fight the bacteria in the body. The generic name of this substance is doxycycline monohydrate. The brand names of this drug include Vibramycin monohydrate, Monodox, Monodoxyne NL, etc. It is a medication that is useful in treating different bacterial infections including acne,urinary tract infections, intestinal infections, eye infections, gonorrhea, chlamydia, periodontitis, etc. In addition, we can use Monodox for the treatment of blemishes, bumps, and lesions similar to acne.

Monodox and Vibramycin - Difference

However, a patient must not be treated with this drug if he/she has allergies to any tetracycline antibiotics. Similarly, children under the age of 8 are treated with this drug only if cases are severe or life-threatening. Furthermore, Monodox can cause permanent yellowing or graying of teeth of children. More importantly, the use of Monodox during pregnancy can harm the unborn baby.

The common side effects of Monodox include signs ofallergic reactionssuch as hives, difficulty in breathing, swelling of face, as well as severe skin reactions including fever, sore throat, burning of eyes, skin pain, and skin rash.

What is Vibramycin?

Vibramycin is a tetracycline antibiotic. The generic name of this substance is doxycycline hyclate. The brand names of this drug include Acticlate, Adoxa, Alodox, Doryx, Morgidox, Oracea, etc. Doxycycline Hyclate is a salt of doxycycline. It is a form of a drug that is useful in treating bacterial infections such as dental infections, skin infections, and urinary tract infections. In addition, this drug can treat acne, Lyme disease, Malaria, and some sexually transmitted diseases. We can classify it as an antibacterial drug. However, it cannot treat any viral infections (treats only bacterial infections).

The route of administration of Vibramycin or Doxycycline Hyclate is via mouth on an empty stomach. It does not work well if we take it with food or drink. This drug is expensive than doxycycline monohydrate.

Difference Between Monodox and Vibramycin

The generic name of Monodox is doxycycline monohydrate while the generic name of Vibramycin is doxycycline hyclate.
