Steak vs Beef

It is hard to imagine an average American person watching an NFL match in the stadium and not having his or her dose of delicious steaks. Beef is loved by many all over the world, and steak is a type of cut of meat, mostly from beef. This article intends to discuss the differences between beef and steak by highlighting their features.

Beef

The meat obtained by large cattle, particularly bovine, is referred as beef in all parts of the world. In most of the Muslim world, beef is the principal source of meat. However, in the entire west and even Asian countries like Japan and China, beef is consumed on a large scale. Some religions consider cow as a sacred animal and slaughter of cow is banned in these countries (India). In fact, beef is the third most consumed meat in the world, pork and chicken being top two in terms of consumption.

Steak

Steak is the name of the cut of the meat that is obtained from various sources such as beef, tuna, salmon, pork etc. However, mostly is it a cut of meat from beef. Therefore, beef is a specific meat from cow, whereas steak is a specific cut of meat. Not all cuts of beef can be called steak while all steak is beef.

What is the difference between Steak and Beef?

• Those who know the difference between pork and bacon can easily tell the difference between beef and steak. While pork is entire meat obtained from the pig, bacon is a special cut from pork. Similarly, whose meat from the cow is beef, while only some cuts from beef are labeled steak and not all cuts.

• Beef is the broad, generic name of the meat obtained from cow while specific cuts from cow are referred to as steak.

• Thus, we have sirloin steak, which is a cut from the hip of the animal, while scotch fillet is the name of the steak that comes from the rib of the animal.
