Difference Between Pubic Lice and Scabies

Pubic Lice vs Scabies

Pubic lice and scabies are caused by parasitic insects. Those who have these conditions have common symptom and that is itchiness. These two are transmitted from one to the other through skin-to-skin contact. You should know the causes to prevent it from worsening.

Pubic Lice

Pubic Lice is generally known as Pthirus pubis and crab lice. They are very notorious parasites known for infecting human genitals. They can also be found in other areas, especially those with hair, like your eyelashes. They survive by feeding your blood. The itching is usually experienced in the pubic-hair region. You would be able to see a grayish or bluish coloration on the affected part which can last for a couple of days.

Scabies

Scabies is from the Latin term, scabere (to scratch). Known as 7-year itch, this condition is very a transmittable skin infection that happens in humans and some animals. The parasites for scabies are indirectly visible (Sarcoptes scabiei). These parasites burrow or make a whole in the skin, which causes extreme itching. This disease can be treated effectively by applying Permethrin cream.

Difference between Pubic Lice and Scabies

Pubic lice generally happen in an individual’s genitals or any part that has hair present while Scabies happens in the person’s skin. The parasite found in pubic lice is called Phthirus pubis while Scabies parasite is called Sarcoptes scabiei. In terms of symptoms, people who have pubic lice don’t have any rashes while those with scabies have rashes present. Both are transmitted from skin-to-skin contract. However, Pubic lice can also be acquired by sharing beds, clothes and towels while scabies are only transmitted during prolonged contact. Pubic lice are commonly acquired from adults while scabies are common in children.
