Gourds vs Pumpkins
Gourds and Pumpkins are two of the most sought bush-like plants that have been popularly grown in the northern part of America for a number of years now. The number of days for them to mature takes around 100 to 120 days depending on the condition of where they’re planted.
Gourd
Gourds which are under the same family with the pumpkins are cultivated by many people world wide due to their usage as a container or ornaments in the house. Aside from that, musicians used them to serve as a drum since they are capable of resonating sounds. They are also called by many as a “nature’s pottery” since they are like vases, vessels and/or containers.
Pumpkin
Pumpkins are those fruits usually in orange or yellow color that are used as jack-o-lantern during Halloween. The use of pumpkins started with the Greeks and they name it “pepon”, meaning large melon. Then the French people improved it by calling it as “pompon”. It was then later on called as “pumpkins” when the fruit arrived on the American territory and decided to change the name.
Difference between Gourds and Pumpkins
The gourds and pumpkins does not differ that much away from each other since they came from the same family. Gourds are more usable as a tool at home such as containers and vessels; also they are also commonly used as musical instruments like drums and some stringed instruments. The gourds are more of an ornamental type but the pumpkins are the edible ones that can be eaten when ripe and/or made into a pie. Gourds in their maturity age can only be dried while the pumpkins in their maturity age can either be baked, roasted, boiled, or steamed.
Pumpkins and Gourds are two fruits with unique and special in them. One unique use of the pumpkins is being a jack-o-lantern that you could always see at houses when Halloween comes. As for the gourds, they have special functions as a musical instrument because of the ability to vibrate the sounds within the gourd.
