**Traditional Math vs Vedic Math**

我们都知道数学是一门科学的数字related concepts. Math is introduced very early to a kid and continues till late through student life (longer if a student chooses to major in math). Numbers are used throughout our lives and basic knowledge is essential to make through banks and other places where quantitative analysis is more important than your language skills. There is another math known as Vedic math coming from ancient Indian scriptures that is known to very few around the world, but today there is a lot of talk about this type of math that makes calculations easy, and allows even those who dread numbers study mathematics. Let us see how traditional math differs from Vedic math and can be of help to people in general and students of math in particular.

Vedic math is the name given to a system of math that has been brought to light by Bharati Krisna Tirathji in 1911. He was one man who researched Vedas and other scriptures to come up with a system of math that was different from traditional math yet more powerful, simpler and more efficient. He proved that all problems in modern math can be solved through 16 basic sutras or formulae. These are not mathematical but mental formulae that guide a student towards appropriate method of solving a sum.

Vedic Math is different from traditional math in the sense that it is coherent and instead of different techniques used for different problems, it uses its feature of coherence to solve the problems. Vedic math is simple and makes a student perform the steps involved in solving a problem mentally. It is more flexible and systematic than traditional math and instead of forcing a pupil to stick to a prescribed method; Vedic math encourages a student to come up with his own creative and unique solving method.

There is a lot of buzz regarding Vedic math these days and sensing its value in making kids learn math in a better and easier manner, educationists are advocating more research on Vedic math so that a curriculum could be developed to make even those who dread math to take up math and develop proficiency in the subject.

However, the efficiency and effectiveness of Vedic math cannot be fully understood and appreciated until one practices the system. It is not just number system that one can tackle more efficiently after practicing Vedic math but even complex problems in geometry, algebra and calculus become ridiculously easy when one learns this ancient Indian system of math.

• Vedic math is an ancient Indian system of math that has been rediscovered and researched by Krishna Tirathji, and has become very popular because of its superiority over traditional math. • Vedic math simplifies math by integrating arithmetic operations into 16 sutras or formulae • Students trained in Vedic math can solve complex arithmetic problems mentally, and that too in much less time, thus, helping enormously in competitive exams. • It is being proposed that if used in conjunction with traditional math and actually complimenting it, Vedic math can be helpful in making students more proficient in modern math • Vedic math helps students to gain a high speed of calculation • Vedic math sharpens analytical abilities, which is not possible with traditional math • It helps students gain self confidence and a flair for math, which is helpful to those who dread math |
