Indian Management Institutes IIM vs ISB

Indian Instiutes of Management (IIM) and Indian School of Business are two premier management institutes in India. When it comes to studying management in India, Indian institutes of management are the preferred choice of millions. These are graduate business schools set up by the government of India to identify and train the best available talent in the field of management. They are credited with churning out world class managers who are ready to face the challenge of industry in every sphere of economy. These institutes are treated with respect for the quality of education imparted to students. Indian School of Business or ISB as it is referred to, is a management college that was established by the then Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu in 2001. In a short span of time, ISB has carved a niche for itself in the field of management and its students are getting absorbed in some big corporations and organizations worldwide.

Though both IIM’s and ISB impart education in the field of management, there are many differences between the two which are as follows.

IIM’s are government aided colleges despite being autonomous. On the other hand, ISB is a private institution.

IIM’s are seven in number and are located in Lucknow, Ahmadabad, Calcutta, Bangalore, Indore, Kozhikode, and Shillong. On the other hand, ISB has a single college which is located in Hyderabad.

IIM’s offer MBA, executive level programs and also PhD. ISB offers MBA, executive level programs but not PhD.

Each of the IIM has its own specialty and has become popular because of that feature such as IIM Calcutta is famous for its curriculum in Finance. ISB is a single entity and this is not possible.

Entrance to IIM’s is through a Common Entrance Test called CAT which is taken by millions of students across India. Only those getting 99 percentile marks can hope to get a seat in these prestigious colleges. The same cannot be said about ISB.

IIM’s are old and have a long history and tradition of churning out quality managers whereas ISB is relative new player in the field.

Though IIM’s are more reputed and get better placements for students but ISB is also not lacking in this regard.

SummaryBoth IIM’s and ISB are educational institutions imparting education in the field of management.

IIM’s are government sponsored but are independent in their functioning. ISB is a private institute.

尽管是后来者,印度商学院成为reputed institute imparting quality education and is being ranked at par with IIM’s at present.

Entrance to IIM’s is through a Common Admission Test called CAT.
