Himadri

Himadri is the longest and almost continuous range of mountain peaks that lies on the northern side of Himachal and covers north of Nepal and some parts of Sikkim. This is the belt that is home to the majestic K2 and Mt Everest peaks, and is an area that is perennially covered with snow, and has an average altitude of over 6000 meters (20000 ft). Eight of world’s 14 highest peaks are found in Himadri region. Himadri region is said to be the backbone of the Himalayas. Himadri forms the extreme northern frontiers of the country and encompasses entire Nepal. Himadri is also known as the Great Himalayan Range, Great Himalayas, or Higher Himalayas.

Himachal

The Lesser Himalayas or the Lower Himalayas are better known as Himachal and forms the in between belt with Himadri on the northern side and Shivaliks on the south. Himachal has a lower altitude than Himadri, and on an average has an altitude of 12000 to 15000 feet. Stretching from Pakistan on the south eastern side, Himachal extends westwards to the Indian states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Western Uttar Pradesh, and some parts of Nepal. Peaks found in Himachal are lower than in Himadri, but this region is full of glaciers and passes. Dhaula Dhar, Nag Tibba, Pir Panjal, and mahabharat are some of the high peaks in Himachal. Himachal is full of many fertile valleys.
