While association is a union, aggregation is the method of forming a union. In other words, it can be said that aggregation leads to association. Aggregation is the total. It is a collection of items such as gravel, brick, stone and the like meant for the construction of a building. In other words, aggregation is a collection of dissimilar elements at one place. While an association is formed, an aggregation is transformed. In other words, aggregation transforms a place to something special. As said earlier the aggregation of files, computers, desks, lighting and furniture gets transformed into an office. This is how the difference between the two words should be understood.

It is interesting to note that both association and aggregation can be found at a single place too. Take, for example, an office or a bank. It is an association of like-minded people who work towards the same goal. At the same time the office is an aggregation of dissimilar elements like files, computers, desks, furniture, electrical fittings, taps and the like.
