Windows Phone Tango vs Mango (WP 7.5)

在智能手机上,Windows Compact Edition aka Windows CE was one of the initial operating systems available for manufacturers. Those days HP, Lenovo, and Dell used to manufacture smartphones that used Windows CE. These weren’t commodities since smartphones weren’t a necessity those days. To add to that, smartphones cost a lot more than mobile phones those days, and people didn’t really go in to the trouble. The ones who used smartphones had to endure the hardship of using Windows CE, which was built synonymously to the PC operating systems and it used to be an absolute horror. Fortunately with the evolution of the mobile market, now we are in an era where smartphone has become a necessity. To add to that, smartphones are more economical compared to the functionalities offered by mobile phones. Hence there are very advanced versions of operating systems optimized for smartphones that make using them a ride in the park. Among them, the leading operating systems are Apple iOS and Android. Besides them, there is also Windows Phone, RIM’s Blackberry, Nokia’s Symbian, and other adequate operating systems.

Today we will be talking about Windows Phone operating system which has gained a significant improvement as the oldest smartphone operating system. After the Windows Phone 7.0 release, Microsoft has also opened up an application market and now it’s on the verge of a boom. At such a time, Microsoft has also announced of an upgrade for the Windows Phone 7.5 OS which is codenamed as Window Phone Tango. Let us discuss the difference between Windows Phone Tango and it’s predecessor Windows Phone Mango.

Windows Phone Tango Review

这个构建内部被称为7.10.877版本3.98, and Microsoft hasn’t really revealed much detail about it. As it read on the official announcement, this update would enable the user to attach multiple files in a single message relieving him of the pain of having to attach multiple files in multiple messages. Further to that, Tango would also enable the user to seamlessly import and export contacts from the SIM card. Other than that, Microsoft has declared that it would contain some other improvements of an unknown origin to us. It could be gathered that the European version of Nokia Lumia 900 will be shipped on this update although we aren’t really sure about the other handsets getting this update.

Windows Mobile Mango Review

We have to claim that Windows improved their OS exponentially after the introduction of iOS and Android. Their initial approach was to consider the mobile OS as same as the PC OS which was a terrible decision. Later on, when they have made their loyal customers suffer enough, Windows emerged with WP 6.5 and 7 which were much user friendly, efficient and attractive. Recent researches indicate that people are still reluctant to buy a Windows Mobile smartphone due to the bad experience they’ve got with the Windows CE editions, but rest assured, now it’s a completely different OS that will be your best friend if used correctly.

The latest addition to the family is Windows Phone 7.5 Mango. I’ve seen a couple of reviewers suggest that this is synonymous to the changes introduced to Windows Vista by Windows 7 where Windows Phone 7 is synonymous to Vista. The apparent difference is the use of tiles, or the Metro UI that is to be used in Windows 8, as well. It’s a nice addition to have and significantly improves your efficiency because the tiles are large and they clearly show when to use a certain application. Windows even go as far as to suggest that tiles makes you keep your eyes more on what you’re doing and less on your phone. It is also much faster than WP 7, and the browser is almost as fast as that of IE9 in your PC. WP 7.5 has also introduced tethering which would be an attractive feature if you’re to have a mobile with versatile network connectivity.

Another key feature we have noted in WP 7.5 is that it keeps the people at focus. The conversations are sorted depending on the people. Emails and text messages, as well as other related content, will be displayed according to the person. It is amazing how Windows has seamlessly integrated facebook chat messages, Windows IMs and text messages into the same thread. The social connectivity has also been improved. Twitter and Facebook integrations are a lot more efficient and responsive in the tiles. Further, the web services have also been improved. This is likely to create a boom in the application store which would make the consumers content. It is an understatement if I tell you that 50000 applications are not much, but it isn’t comparable with the amount offered by iOS at times, and which is actually a key area taking care of by Microsoft. If we look at the overall product, it is well packaged and has more hardware choices than iOS, but it would take some time for manufacturers to produce better suited hardware for this operating system.

A Brief Comparison between Windows Phone Tango and Windows Phone Mango (WP 7.5)

• Windows Phone Tango enables the user to attach multiple files in a single message while Windows Phone Mango didn’t have that feature.

• Windows Phone Tango enables the user to seamlessly import and export contacts from the SIM card while Windows Phone Mango didn’t have that feature.

Conclusion

Windows Phone Tango is ideally an updated version of Windows Phone Mango where few bugs might have been fixed, and few new features were added. As such, it logically follows that Window Phone Tango is generically going to be the better version given that Microsoft had maintained the performance level of Windows Phone Mango while enabling all those updates. Knowing Microsoft, we can assume that it is so, hence Windows Phone Tango would be our recommendation.
