As nouns, the difference between walk and path can be a little confusing since the difference is very slight. That is why walk and path can be considered as two terms that are often used to convey the same meaning. In fact, in general, they are two different words that convey different meanings and connotations. The word walk is primarily used as averb. On the other hand, the word path is used primarily as anoun. This is the main difference between the two words. Other than this, walk and path are both used to indicate different types of roads. A walk is usually a route that is marked and built. However, a path can be something that is built as well as something that came into being because of continual treading on the same way for a period.

What does Walk mean?

As a verb, the word walk is used in the sense of ‘stroll’ as in the sentences given below.

He went to a nearby park for a walk.

Angela walked across the road and called a taxi.

In both the sentences, the word walk is used in the sense of ‘stroll.’ Hence, the meaning of the first sentence would be ‘he went to a nearby park for a stroll’, and the second sentence could be rewritten as ‘Angela strolled across the road and called a taxi’. Notice that when you use the word walk as a verb it indicates the action of moving done leisurely. That meaning can be changed by adding an副词such as fast to the verb walk.

It is interesting to note that the word walk is used as a noun also as in the case of the first sentence given above. ‘He went for a walk’. Here the word walk is used as a noun to indicate the action of walking. Again walk is used as a noun to talk about a route marked out for recreational walking as in the sentence ‘I used the garden walk by the river to come back home.’

What does Path mean?

On the other hand, the word path cannot be used as a verb. It can be used only as a noun. This is one of the differences between the two words walk and path. The word path refers to a lane or a trail. Take a look at the two sentences given below.

Francis saw two boys while walking on the path in the woods.

Angela walked down the path near the river until she came to the main road.

In both the sentences, the word path is used in the sense of ‘lane’ or ‘trail.’ Hence, the first sentence could be rewritten as ‘Francis saw two boys while walking on the trail in the woods’, and the meaning of the second sentence would be ‘Angela walked down the lane near the river until she came to the main road.’ Notice the places where these paths were. In woods, there are no routes made by men as in the cities which are made using construction material. These trails are made by continually walking in them. The second road near the river can also be such a road made by people continually walking.
