Steel vs Fibreglass Doors

Steel and Fibreglass doors are becoming more and more popular today. They are replacing, but not totally, the old-aged wooden type of doors due to the durability, cost, maintenance, appearance, insulation and longevity that steel and fibreglass materials are offering.

Steel Door

Steel doors are usually used as entry doors in the stores of Small-Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and also at other establishments that are going for inexpensive doors. The main factor why more people are opting for steel doors is because of security factor. The frame of the steel doors can’t be easily broken by crow bars or any other tool.

Fibreglass Door

In 1980s, while steel doors are gaining popularity, the demand in the market for another alternative in door materials rose up. They wanted to have the strength of steel but with a look of a wooden door. That’s what gives rise to the fibreglass doors which have the qualities of a steel door yet it can be punched with a wood grain finish.

Difference between Steel and Fibreglass Doors

When speaking about the cost of these doors, if one is looking for a high end and nice looking door, then they would probably go for a fibreglass doors while steel doors would be a great substitute if monetary budget is limited. But if they are needing for a better insulated door, steel doors should be their top pick since its skin is made of real steel, it helps cold air from passing through the door compared to fibreglass doors which is made of a very solid material all the way through the door.

Whether steel doors or fibreglass doors, it still depends upon the reference of the owner as to what kind of door is appropriate for his home/establishment. Factors like weather condition, security, aesthetic need, and money would play the factor in choosing what kind of door is the right one.

In brief:

• Steel doors are much cheaper compared to fibreglass doors but fibreglass doors offers low maintenance and durability.

• Steel doors are commonly for small to medium establishments while fibreglass doors are suitable for establishments who need more security like banks.
