Sporophyte represents the asexual generation of a plant. It is a diploid structure having two sets of chromosomes in cells. Sporophyte generation is dominant in higher plants such as angiosperms and gymnosperms as well as in pteridophytes. Furthermore, these haploid spores participate in the formation of new plants via asexual reproduction.
