Report vs Memo

Report and Memo are facts that are intended to be stored and communication info, or act as a recording. They are commonly known as documents. These documents usually focus on government and business administration. These are usually printed in papers or in an online format.

Report

The audience can be an individual, the public or private people. Reports are commonly used in education, science, government, business and some other fields. This kind of document makes use of persuasive elements, like voice, images, or graphics to convince the audience to undertake action.

Memo

Shortened word for memorandum, which is a document that aids the memory by making observations on a certain topic or recording events that are used in a business office. It can be written in any format, or it can have specific formats based on a specific institution or office. It records the terms of the contract, transaction, and memorandum of agreement, memorandum of association, or memorandum of understanding.

Difference between Report and Memo

Reports usually contain an introduction, subtitles, label and pictures, charts or diagrams to support the information given while a Memo commonly starts with this format: Date, To, From, and Subject. The purpose of reports is to persuade the reader on that was written on the report while a memorandum is not mainly written on informing the reader but protecting the writer. Reports cover a wide variety of topics from business, science or government while a memo only covers business transactions or issues. Reports are very concise and have been thoroughly researched while Memos are made to give out orders, about an issue or changing policies.

Reports and memo are present in most people’s day to day living. These documents exist to give information or documentation of certain happenings or changes.
