Difference Between Highlights and Streaks

Highlights vs Streaks

Highlights and streaks are methods of changing one’s hair color. They are usual nowadays among by all agers but most common among teens and young adults. The change can be for a lighter shade or for any other color.

Highlights

Highlights are commonly applied on one’s hair as little streaks of hair color. Highlights are applied to give one’s hair a lighter shade. It can be done as temporary or can be partially permanent. One can get his or her hair highlighted in a beauty salon, but a lot of companies already have produced products that can be applied at home. Some people do their highlights themselves.

Streaks

While highlighting gives hair a lighter color, streaks are applied to change the hair color into darker shades or even any color one may want. Streaks are applied to provide a bold statement. Usually, people have streaks stands out in the crowd. Some, if not most teens, put on streaks with neon colors like pink, green or purple. Some people dye their hair red.

Difference between Highlights and Streaks

With the modern trend, people, specifically teens, have new ways to get their selves noticed. Take this for an example, Asian people have naturally black hairs, but because of the influence of the Western people, some Asians dye their hair so they would look like blondes. On the other hand, most people who use streaks on their hairs just want attention; most people with colorful streaks may belong to these cliques: punk, rocker or emo. In highlighting, in order to make the effect, hair is colored in thin slices while hair is colored in thick and wide slices in streaking.

Changing one’s hair color is a way of expressing one’s self. Some people dye their hair according to how they see themselves and how they want others to see them.

In brief:

• To create the highlights’ effect, hair is colored in thin slices while in streaks they do it in thick and wide hair slices.

• Highlighting is usually used to lighten one’s hair color, while in streaks, it does not matter what color you will apply even if it is darker than the original hair color.
