情态动词and auxiliary verbs are two different types of动词, and between which some differences can be highlighted. In any language, there are various verb forms. The modal and auxiliary verbs are two such categories. Modal verbs are also known asmodal auxiliaries。These are a type of auxiliary verbs used when making requests, speaking of possibilities, etc. On the other hand, auxiliary verbs are also known as辅助动词s。这些通常为sentence。One of thekey differences between the two types of verbs is that while auxiliary verbs have to be conjugated, modal auxiliary verbs do not.This article attempts to highlight this difference in detail. First, let us begin with the modal verbs.

What are Modal Verbs?

情态动词also known as modal auxiliaries are a variety of auxiliaries.They can be used for various functions in the language. Here is a list of most常用的模态动词。

  • may
  • 将

  • 应该
  • ought to
  • need

情态动词areused when making requests, asking for permission, speaking of ability,而且当谈到可能性时as well. The specialty in modal verbs is that they ate able to express mood and time.

情态动词are used along with the main verb in order to provide a complete meaning. Let us look at some example.

你能够win the match if you try.

你应该问我这件事。

你oughtto tell him the truth before he finds out.

能I borrow your pen?

Observe how the modal verbs have been used in each example. You will notice that by使用模态动词,扬声器可以改变整个句子的含义。This is the significance of modal verbs. Also, modal verbsdo not have to be conjugatedin accordance to the subject of the sentence. Whether it is plural or singular, it remains the same. Now, let us move on to auxiliary verbs.

What are Auxiliary Verbs?

Auxiliary verbs are也称为帮助动词。这些动词通常与主动词一样,类似于模态动词。但是,在some situations, the auxiliary verbs can stand alone。An auxiliary verb usually functions within the sentence in order tomake sense for the listeneror reader and also to提供语法准确性。The mostcommonly used auxiliary verbsare as follows.

Auxiliary verbsallow the speaker to present an idea of the timein which the event occurred. For instance, when a person says, I was eating at the time he called. The speaker highlights that the action took place in the past. The auxiliary assists this function. It can also be used in order to表达心情和声音as well.

Unlike in the case of modal verbs,auxiliary verbs have to be conjugatedin accordance to the subject of the sentence. This can be understood through some examples.

Auxiliary Verb Be:

Iam现在出发。

Sheisbeautiful.

They是等着你。

Hewaslate as usual.

辅助动词做:

Idon’tlike her.

Doesshe know the truth?

Didhe find the key?

Auxiliary Verb Have:

Ihave已经看过了。

    These two examples are not using auxiliary verbs:

    (动词:be)
    – She is beautiful.
    - 他照常迟到了。

    These are actually linking verbs.

    A linking verb is a main verb which is placed between the subject and the subject complement, and they are not associated with any action.
