Difference Between Deer and Dear

Deer vs Dear

Deer and Dear are two words that are often confused when it comes to their spelling. It is quite common to see that sometimes the spellings get interchanged. It is wrong to do so. The word ‘deer’ refers to a kind of animal. On the other hand, the word ‘dear’ is used in the sense of ‘beloved’. This is the main difference between the two words.

The word ‘deer’ has a specialty in the sense it is the word that represents both the singular and the plural form of the word ‘deer’ as in the two sentences,

1.The deer looks at the people that have come to the park.

2. The deer look with erect ears.

In the first sentence, the word ‘deer’ is used in the singular number. On the other hand, in the second sentence the word ‘deer’ is used in the plural number. This is an important observation to make when it comes to the usage of the word ‘deer’. On the other hand, take a look at the following sentences.

1.弗朗西斯说,啊,亲爱的,看我的

2. He looked after his dear children.

In both the sentences, the word ‘dear’ is used in the sense of ‘beloved’ and hence, the meaning of the first sentence would be ‘O my beloved, look at me’, and the meaning of the second sentence would be ‘he looked after his beloved children’.

It is important to note that the word ‘dear’ has its adverbial form in the word ‘dearly’ as in the sentence, ‘Francis looked at her dearly.’ In this sentence, the word ‘dearly’ is used as an adverb. The word ‘dear’ is normally used as an adjective. On the other hand, the word ‘deer’ is used as a noun. These are the differences between the two words, namely, deer and dear.
